The Demise of the Doughboy – Humor Unplugged
Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1382 of our Trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life. Something to cheer you and give a bit a levity in your life. We are told in Proverbs 15:30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. We are also encouraged in Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s funny which is titled:
The Demise of the Doughboy
It seems that there is an announcement every few days of a well-known actor, musician, or sports celebrity that has died recently. Most were not Covid-19 related, and is probably just a sign of the times with so many baby boomers reaching the end of their natural life. I am afraid that I have one more to announce today. It is the death of our beloved Pillsbury Doughboy. I know that all of us morn his passing.
Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. Here is Doughboy’s obituary.
The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The gravesite was piled high with enriched flour.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Born and bread in Minnesota, Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half- baked schemes.
Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty older man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.
Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough, and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. His elderly father, Pop Tart, also survived him.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
If you smiled while reading this, please rise to the occasion and pass it on to someone having a crumby day that kneads a lift.
Our Thursday thought is, “The Pillsbury Doughboy was a perfect man. He’s cute, and he’s sweet, and best of all, he’s rolling in dough.”
Here is our verse for today is referring to false teaching:
It is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.

The book of Acts picks up the New Testament story after the resurrection of Jesus. The book opens with the resurrected Christ giving his disciples instructions on spreading the good news of the cross, and his resurrection in the familiar verse Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The incredible events of Pentecost are something with which virtually all Christians are acquainted. As Jesus promised, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, enabling them to speak in the languages of the multitude of Jews who had come to Jerusalem from every nation. This miracle resulted in thousands of conversions to belief in Jesus as the risen Messiah, which in turn meant that new believers would return to every nation to spread the word. But while all this is familiar, its Old Testament context is habitually overlooked.
The list of disinherited nations is given to us in Genesis 10, the “table” of the known nations at the time. If you were to look at a map of those nations, they would extend from the Persian Gulf (the area of Babylon) in the east to Tarshish (modern-day Spain) in the west. At the time of the writing of Genesis 10, Tarshish was the westernmost landmass known.

You may have heard of the phrase when referring to a person or leader, that is his True North, and this is what it means.
If you are a Christ-follower, then your True North must be defined by God’s Word. In our wisdom quote for today, J.I. Packer is correct. If you do not study and apply God’s Word to your life, you will be like a compass that is broken where the needle just randomly swings one way and then another. You will end up stumbling and bumbling through life. It will be the same as being blind, or at least blindfolded. You will have no real sense of direction or understanding of what is around you. Your decision-making ability will be significantly impaired. So follow your True North, which is based on God’s Word.

To set the stage for today’s Meditation, let me first read Psalm 8
It is because God created us for a specific purpose that fulfills His plan for all of His creation. He made humankind just a little lower than His heavenly council, who were created to fulfill their divine roles ruling over the heavens, as we were created for the specific purpose of ruling over His earthly domain. God crowned us humans with glory and honor as Kings to rule over his earthly abode. We are kings who have charge over everything He made, putting all things on earth under our authority. Our rule includes the entire earthly domain, domestic and wild animals, birds in the sky, fish in the sea, and everything that swims in the ocean.

One of the most amazing stories in Scripture is the conversion of Saul. Saul is the fiercest, most passionate persecutor of the early followers of Jesus as described in the book of Acts. Of all the initial problems Jesus’ followers had to overcome, Saul was one of the dangerous and troubling ones. Yet in one event, Jesus turns Saul from his most significant problem into his most excellent spokesman! While it took fourteen years for all the details to get sorted entirely out (
Meanwhile, a well-known follower of Jesus from Damascus is told to find Saul and share the message of Jesus with him. His name is Ananias, and he is reluctant to go because he knows Saul’s mission in Damascus is to arrest and persecute people like Ananias and their families (
