Gratitude Creates Blessings – Wisdom Unplugged

Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1310 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Sir John Templeton, and it is: An attitude of gratitude creates blessings.
Gratitude Creates Blessings

Gratitude starts in our minds. It is expressed through our attitude towards all that we have, that is all of the blessings in our lives. As we contemplate all that we have to be thankful for, it not only changes the way we think, it changes our attitude towards all of life. This changes how we look at the most mundane circumstances, and even what might be thought of as negative circumstances and turns them into blessings as we see how each situation of life is purifying us into whom God intends for us to become.
I think of my own family. I was one of ten children where we grew up on an apple orchard and would be considered poor by any standard in the western world. What we lacked in money or possessions we made up in love, hard work, and an appreciation for all that God provided for us. There were many a meal where we would have to pass the serving dish back around to give up a portion of what we had served ourselves, so that all twelve of us had something to eat. One thing that we had an abundance of throughout our entire life is the love of our parents, and love for each other. No, we didn’t always get along, and yes, there was plenty of conflict between siblings and our parents, but we never doubted our love for each other.
These childhood experiences shaped who I am today. Although, as an adult with children and grandchildren, my family would be considered fairly well off now, I am so thankful each day for everything God’s grace has provided. I try not to take anything for granted, or to be dissatisfied with even the smallest of blessings. Even the difficult times financially, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually I praise God for His goodness and allowing me to serve Him and be a tool in the building of His kingdom.

Thinking about the roots of my upbringing, and the heritage that I have experienced in my life, in future Tuesday wisdom episodes, I will share more of the blessing that comes from an attitude of gratitude.
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

God loves us with a faithful love that is not based on our daily decisions and choices that we make. His love for us never waivers or ends. This is described by the prophet Jeremiah in one of the Biblical books that he authored.
Jeremiah’s body ached. His heart was sick. His faith was small and getting even smaller… but then it dawned on him that he was sinking into despair quickly, so he shifted his gaze as is written in
We need to follow the same pattern as Jeremiah. When we are down, depressed, in pain, and agony, we need to alter our thoughts. We need to shift our attention. Just like Jeremiah, we need to turn our eyes away from this stormy world and look into the wonders of God. We can easily do this by reading or memorizing the promises that I read in Lamentations 3:22-24. To help you remember them, you can list them on the five fingers of your hand.

I am very sorry that you are struggling with forgiveness and are angry and bitter. You have to realize though, that without forgiveness, bitterness is all that’s left!
Dare you ask God for grace when we refuse to give it?

Mr. Smith, an elderly gentleman, had serious hearing problems for a number of years. His family begged him to go see an audiologist, but he continued to refuse to go, thinking that his hearing wasn’t that bad. Finally, he decided maybe it was time, but he was too embarrassed to admit it to his family, so he made an appointment himself. On his appointment date, He went to Dr. Jones, the best hearing specialist in town. Dr, Jones was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed Mr. Smith to hear 100%.
I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a good smile. Our Thursday thought is: “
