Necessary Actions – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1785 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!” If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Marcus Aurelius, and it is, “A person should do away with unnecessary actions and unnecessary thoughts so that necessary actions will soon follow.”
We often allow ourselves to be distracted by heading down unnecessary rabbit trails and clogging our minds with unnecessary thoughts. These distractions will take our focus off what is essential and stifle our productivity and effectiveness. It is so easy to do, especially for those who invest most of their time working on computers or other connected devices. Many social media platforms and other internet sites are designed to draw you in and keep you involved for hours. That is how much of their revenue is generated.
Now, these platforms are not wrong in and of themselves, but anything that distracts us can negatively impact our lives by diminishing our productivity and effectiveness. Unnecessary actions and thoughts can manifest themselves in many areas of our lives. It could be getting lost in a good book or withdrawing into unproductive activities to escape what you should be focused on. While we all need a break at times from intense focus, I know that most of us find ourselves participating in unnecessary actions or dwelling on unnecessary thoughts. When we break from these harmful habits, we can then focus on what is essential and rewarding.
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
