Each of us are a blended result of our genetic makeup, our environment, what we have allowed into our minds, and what we have focused on once it has entered out minds. Occasionally you will hear someone proclaim that they are a self-made man or woman. In reality, to a large extent, we are all self-made, the only difference is that the successful person is the only one willing to admit it.
Being a self-made person does not mean that we have started from scratch and all of our results are a product of what we have accomplished. All of us rely on those who have paved the way for us, so none of us are truly a self-made person. Sir Issac Newton said it well when he proclaimed, “If I have been able to see further than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.”
If you do not like what you have accomplished up to this point in your life, maybe it is because you are standing on the wrong shoulders. What you are today has been strongly influenced by what you have allowed into your mind and the people that you associate with.
The wisdom of Zig Ziglar helps this concept to become clear, “You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind. You can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.” Change your mindset, and you can change your world.
