Action Builds Confidence – Daily Wisdom

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1898 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!” If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today’s quote is from Norman Vincent Peale, and it is, “Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different actions or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.”

Action Builds Confidence

To confidently move forward in life, you must take action. I realize that certain people are more action-oriented, but when action is not taken, our minds will start dwelling on what may go wrong, which causes additional fear and anxiety. Inaction will cause a downward spiral which is challenging to escape from. On the other hand, your confidence will grow, and your worries will subside if you take action.

Taking action does not guarantee that all will succeed or that you will be free from adverse situations, but you will still be moving. Yes, just like a sailboat must continually adjust the sails to the prevailing winds, and a jet plan must constantly adapt its heading, when you take action, it is much easier to change your course as needed. There is no reason to be fearful when God is directing us. Even if it may be somewhat flawed, any action is better than no action. So get up, take action, and move confidently forward.

Hebrews 11:32-35
How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets.  By faith, these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Women received their loved ones back again from death.

Today’s quote is from Gramps, and it is, “Achievement is not always defined by victory. Sometimes achievement lies in the honest endeavor to do your best under all circumstances, knowing that on any given day, an intensely personal effort may be the only thing that separates you from your competition. So, to be your best, grab your paddle and get moving.”

Achievement Is an Honest Endeavor

We all desire to be triumphant and victorious in our endeavors in life. The question is, can achievement be reached short of victory? The answer is a resounding yes! Achievement is measured by how far you progress from your starting point, based on your individual talents and abilities.

Achievement for you will and should be different from anyone else. We all have a unique set of God-given talents, skills, and abilities. It is up to you to do your best under all circumstances based on what you can achieve, not others. On any given day, your intensely personal effort will be what separates you from anyone else, even if it is a competitive situation.

Always do your best for God’s glory, and you will achieve what you need to. It is then you can rest in the fact that you have completed what God intended for you.

Colossians 3:23

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Today’s quote is from Jack Nicklaus, and it is, “Achievement is primarily the product of steadily raising one’s level of aspiration and expectation.”

Aspiration and Expectation

We all want to achieve significantly in life, but the thought of big achievements seems to be out of reach for many. This is not the case, though. The way to achieve greatness is to accomplish small increments and do the same each day. Then, once you reach a desired level of achievement, raise your aspirations and expectations one additional level.

The journey of a thousand miles is accomplished one step at a time. It takes perseverance and discipline to do a little more tomorrow than you completed today, like anything worth achieving. So don’t be discouraged if you are not making the progress you hope for; keep on each day, and sooner than you realize, much will be accomplished. Little is much when God is in it.

Romans 5:3-5

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Today’s quote is from François Fénelon, and it is, “Accustom yourself gradually to carry prayer into all your daily occupation — speak, act, work in peace, as if you were in prayer, as indeed you ought to be.”

Prayer in Your Daily Occupation

Prayer to our Holy Yahweh has been associated with being the same as breathing in and out. Breathing is not only vital to our biological life but has also been seen as spiritually significant in most religious traditions. In the creation narrative, God breathes life into the nostrils of humankind. The Spirit is the “breath of God,” the animating force that fills our lungs. Jesus, in sending out the twelve, breathes on them as a ritual to symbolize the presence of the Spirit with and in them.

Breathing prayer takes many forms. One of the most well-known in the Christian tradition would be the “Jesus Prayer” that comes to us from our Eastern Orthodox kin. Another, perhaps somewhat less familiar, is tied to the Jewish tradition.

The Jews did not speak God’s name, but breathed it with an open mouth and throat: inhale—Yah; exhale—weh. We speak God’s name and participate in God’s breath by our very breathing. This is our first and our last word as we enter and leave the world.

Everything we speak, every action, needs to also be in the spirit of prayer lifted to the almighty who reigns on high. Be at peace with God, others, and yourself as you go through every moment of each day. Remain in a spirit of prayer at all times.

1 Thessalonians 5:15-18

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Today’s quote is from Catherine Marshall, and it is, “According to Jesus, it is God’s will that His children be filled with the joy of life.”

Be Filled with Joy

Every Christ-follower should be filled with joy to overflowing. Of course, that doesn’t mean that life will be easy all the time or that we won’t have problems or discouragements. But, it means that regardless of the pains of life, we know who holds our past, present, and future and that we are secure in Jesus Christ. Once we understand that our overriding purpose in life is to use our God-given talents and abilities to build God’s kingdom here on earth, our priorities and focus on life will serve that purpose.

All too often, our sense of significance, purpose, and security is tied to what we do for a living or our family and friends. While we should do our very best in whatever we do for a living and foster strong relationships with family and friends, the only lasting value is what we do in life that will impact others for eternity. Our occupation and calling are to build God’s kingdom. Our job, family, and friends are how we fulfill that occupation.

If we have our priorities in life correct, we can be filled with joy every day, regardless of the challenges and obstacles. The key is obedience to the calling of God through Christ Jesus.

John 15:9-17

I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.
