Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 366 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Finishing Well – Year 1 is Complete
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 366 of our trek. Today we complete one full year of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for coming along with me each day of our trek. I really appreciate it. Today on our trek, let’s explore what it means to finish well.
Before we get started on today’s trek, this will be the last day, at least for a while, that I will remind you that the initial release of our 100 page Your Life Plan Blueprint manual/workbook is available for download at Wisdom-Trek.com on the left-hand sidebar of any page. Or, if you are listening on your smartphone, you can text the word LifePlan (with no spaces) to 44222, and Your Life Plan Blueprint will be delivered to you in an email. The manual/workbook is free during the month of May, so I would encourage you to become one of our early adopters so that all updates will be available to you for free also. By the end of 2016, we will have a complete web/mobile version available of Your Life Plan Blueprint.
We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. With Memorial Day being honored in the United States this week, it provided an extra day of cleaning and preparation work in and around The Big House. I was able to finish cleaning the garage and applying polyurethane to the 2 4-foot gliders. Overall, it was a very productive weekend.
Starting tomorrow, June 1st, the second season of Wisdom-Trek begins, and we are changing up the format. We will be releasing new Wisdom-Trek themed episodes three days a week, which will be Motivation Mondays, Wisdom Wednesdays, and Philosophy Fridays. The episodes may be slightly longer and less scripted than in the past but will still be short enough to consume easily in one session. Making this adjustment will allow us to invest the time needed to release the Wisdom-Trek monthly journals, create the online version of Your Life Plan Blueprint, and roll out our new platform Christian Podcasting Network. We also have additional exciting projects in the planning stages that I will announce later.
For today, it is time to head out on our last day of season 1 of Wisdom-Trek as we reflect on the trail of:
Finishing Well – Year 1 is Complete
There are times in life when we reach reflection points that give us an opportunity to pause, to ponder, and to reflect. As we have now completed the first full year of Wisdom-Trek and as I approach a milestone birthday of 60 this August, I feel that I am reaching one of those reflection points in life. It gives me an opportunity to philosophize a bit. With today’s advancements in health care, life sciences, and nutritional information, it is possible to live well beyond the century mark. I have stated many times, God willing, that I would like to live to 125. If God does permit this, then I am just approaching the half-time of my Super Bowl of life.
As I approach this half-time, I am certainly compelled to finish the first half well, but more importantly, I desire to be prepared to succeed in the second half of life with a far greater impact. I am compelled to build on the legacy that I have started and live a legacy far beyond that in the second half of life.
Although it is important to rest, relax, and reenergize during half-time, what is more important is to review the first half, to strategize, to plan, and then be prepared to execute well in the second half. That is one of the reasons that I have created and will be focusing a significant amount of time building out the online web/mobile version of Your Life Plan Blueprint. This
is not only so that I can have a solid life plan for my second half of life but to assist as many people as I possibly can to prepare for their entirety of life. It is also why I am choosing to invest much time and energy into building online communities where I can multiply my impact through the lives of others on a much greater scale throughout the world.
I am more excited today about the opportunities that are before me than at any other time of life. With the advancements of technologies already and the advancements that are on the horizons, the opportunities for all of us in this game of life will be nearly limitless. Sure the second half will be difficult. Sure we will have to work hard and play hard. Sure there will be times of defeat and disappointment. Sure there will be times of blood, sweat, and tears. When these times of adversity come, and they will, let us not throw in the towel and give up. Instead, let us take to heart the words the Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Galatians in Chapter 6:9, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
So, let us seize this opportunity to create and live a legacy that will impact the lives of others for eternity. No possessions gained and no wealth accumulated will last when our game of life is over unless they are resources used positively to have an impact on those individuals who will send a ripple effect through all of eternity.
Regardless of whether you are in your first second half of this game of life, play well. To switch our analogy slightly, let us run the race of life well at all times as was the encouragement to the first century Hebrew Christians in Hebrews 12:1-4, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.”
It is my prayer and desire that I play my second half of life well. If God does grant me a very long life and I am permitted to live well beyond the century mark, may I use every single day to impact others and to bring honor and glory to His name. Regardless of how long my second half is, when the clock runs out, may I be able to repeat the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.”
Thank you for coming along with me during this first year of Wisdom-Trek. It has been a blessing and encouragement to me. My hope is that it has been for you also. As we shift slightly in format and style to three days per week, please continue to trek with me as we continue on this marvelous journey called life.
Tomorrow we will begin Wisdom-Trek 2.0 with Wisdom Wednesday as we begin to explore Proverbs chapter 11, so encourage your friends and family to join us. Then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
That will finish our trek for today. As you enjoy your daily dose of wisdom, we ask you to help us grow Wisdom-Trek by sharing with your family and friends through email, Facebook, Twitter, or in person and invite them to come along with us each day. Don’t forget to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on iTunes, Spreaker, Stitcher, Soundcloud, iHeart Radio, and Google Play, so each day’s trek will be downloaded to you automatically.
Thank you for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most of all your friend as I serve you through the Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal each day.
As we take this trek together, let us always:
