Faith That Endures – Wisdom Unplugged
Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is Day 525 of our trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Viktor E. Frankl, who said, “Just as a small fire is extinguished by the storm whereas a large fire is enhanced by it — likewise a weak faith is weakened by predicament and catastrophes whereas a strong faith is strengthened by them.”
If you have ever been camping when it is windy or raining, you understand how difficult it is to keep a campfire going, especially a small one. Contrary to this, think of a major forest fire and how the winds will whip it into a fast-moving inferno that devours everything in site. Our faith in life and in God is very similar. If our faith is weak and based solely on our own strength, then the smallest of problems and setbacks will crush our spirit, our drive, and our ability to move forward.
The opposite is true of a person who has a strong and enduring faith in life and in God, who is the giver of life. When the strong winds of adversity blow, when the obstacles grow larger, when life becomes almost unbearable…if our faith is strong, it will grow even stronger because we know that God is ultimately in control of all situations. It is then that our faith grows larger because we know He will provide the strength and resources to persevere through the storms of life.
This concept is summed up best in Romans 5:1-5, “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”
