Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 210 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Living Your Life with Purpose, On Purpose #2
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 210 of our Trek. I hope that you are still able to relax and enjoy this Christmas holiday. If you have to work throughout this holiday, choose to enjoy it and spread cheer to those that you meet. Today we continue on our Trek that we started yesterday on our hike towards 2016. I mentioned yesterday that one commitment that I am making for 2016 is to live my life with purpose, on purpose. I encourage you to join me in living a life that is both rich and satisfying, to live life to the full. As we Trek through life, living fully does not imply that we won’t have setbacks but that we will be able to navigate through them while learning the lessons that they teach us. Wisdom-Trek is one way that will help you through the difficult days of our Trek. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.
We are recording our podcast from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Our planning days have begun as Paula and I lay out our calendar for all of 2016. This year includes a Chamberlain Family Reunion July 4th weekend, as well as the Podcast Movement conference the week following that. We will also be making 3 or 4 trips to Arizona to work with our partners there on the construction projects. One of the big aspects of our planning for 2016 is to create and build the “Christian Podcasting Network.” This is a new direction for us and stems from an opportunity we see from creating Wisdom-Trek and working with other podcasters who are also Christ followers. There are many other areas that will also be involved in our planning, so it should be a very intense week. If you are a person who prays, we would appreciate your prayers for wisdom and insight during this planning process and throughout 2016. As we do plan, we realize that it is God that will give us direction in all areas as we humbly follow him as was mentioned in Proverbs 16:9, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
Keeping with our theme of life being a trek with its steep mountains to climb and deep valleys to navigate, let us focus on how we can live that rich and satisfying life each day. What is required for us to live life with purpose, on purpose? We started yesterday and will continue for the next few days to set our course and learn how to accomplish this. Our Trek for the next couple of days is…
Living a Life with Purpose, On Purpose #2
Yesterday we stopped on our hike and explored the fact that everything has purpose, and most importantly you and I are God’s masterpiece and He has a plan for us as written in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Now that we know we are God’s Masterpiece let’s explore the concept that…
2. Your purpose makes you unique.
Your purpose is different from the purpose of anybody else listening or reading this today, anybody else on the face of this globe, anybody since creation.
You are not a divine experiment. Let me tell you what I mean. God did not make you to see what He could possibly do with you when you were born. Isaiah [46:10] tells us this.
Only I can tell you the future
before it even happens.
Everything I plan will come to pass,
for I do whatever I wish.
That is saying, before you were created, God had the end in mind. God knew your purpose. God did not start with your creation. He started with your purpose, and He designed you uniquely and specifically for that purpose.
Your existence is evidence that this world needs something that only your life can offer. In other words, your purpose is the uniqueness and the value that you bring to this world.
When you lay hold of the purpose God has for your life, you start to think of your life and value the way God thinks.
Ephesians 1:4 – Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Now that we know that our purpose makes us unique, next let’s explore the concept that our…
3. Purpose is the key to fulfillment.
When you embrace your God-given purpose, you unleash your God-given potential. Turn God’s purpose into your passion.
There is nothing more satisfying than to know what you are meant to be doing and to commit yourself to do that faithfully. I said to do that faithfully. That means with persistence and consistence every day.
Miles Munroe said that the greater tragedy is not death, but life without purpose. The greater tragedy is not the unfortunate and untimely death, as terrible as that is, of a loved one in an accident. It is the millions upon millions who die every year having squandered their potential and their purpose by doing something else.
Life is not simply lost by dying. Life is lost minute by minute, day by day, in all the thousands of ways in which men and woman live their lives without purpose.
In everything, purpose is the key to fulfillment!
- Do you want to be fulfilled in tragedy? Find purpose!
- Do you want to be fulfilled in need? Find purpose!
- Do you want to be fulfilled in cancer? Find purpose!
- Do you want to be fulfilled in the loss of a loved one? Find purpose!
Don’t squander your troubles, your trials, and your tragedies. Find God’s purpose.
Why? Because in purpose your pain and God’s provision meet.
By understanding that purpose is the key to fulfillment we need to understand that…
4. God will accomplish his purpose.
How many of you know that in Matthew 3:17 when the Father in heaven says of the Son, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy,” it meant that at that time Jesus was fulfilling His purpose?
In John 19:30 when Jesus said, “It is finished!” He was speaking about purpose.
Jesus also said in John 17:4, “I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.”
How many of you know God will accomplish His purpose in you?
Romans 8:28 also says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Here is an important concept that I want to explore with you. I don’t think even the devil has a good understanding of this. If you grasp this concept, you will always be one step ahead of the devil. Nothing the devil does can stop the purpose of God. He always has a backup plan.
His purpose was fulfilled in the Garden of Eden even after the fall of humans.
His purpose was fulfilled when Joseph got sold into slavery.
His purpose was fulfilled when Israel was taken into captivity.
His purpose was fulfilled when Jesus died on a cross.
His purpose was fulfilled when Nero persecuted the Church.
God has a purpose and a plan even when you and I get it wrong. He always has, and He always will. Now here is the amazing thing. Even the mistakes we make and the failures we experience, they too become part of God’s purpose and plan.
And why is that? It is because the sovereign God of the universe will fulfill His purpose, and you are that purpose.
Paul knew this when he boldly proclaimed in Philippians 1:6, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Paul is speaking about your purpose.
So stop sweating it. It is okay. God will fulfill His purpose in you and through you. This sovereign God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. God is for you!
God is never troubled by your past, but He is excited about your future. Understand this. You cannot walk in the richness and righteousness of your purpose while you are tied to the pain and failures of your past.
In addition to yesterday’s lesson that everything has purpose, today we explored that your purpose is unique to you and that no one can take your place. We also explored that the key to your joy, peace, and satisfaction is the fulfillment of that purpose. Finally, we explored that God will accomplish His purpose through you, regardless of your past. Tomorrow we will continue and explore why it is important for you to choose to fulfill that purpose, so please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
That will finish our podcast for today. Remember to listen to your daily dose of wisdom each day. Please share Wisdom-Trek with your family and friends through email, Facebook, Twitter, or in person so they can come along with us each day.
Thank you for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most of all your friend as I serve you through the Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal each day.
As we take this Trek together, let us always:
- Live Abundantly (Fully)
- Love Unconditionally
- Listen Intentionally
- Learn Continuously
- Lend to others Generously
- Lead with Integrity
- Leave a Living Legacy Each Day
